I've Learned - A Year in Santa Cruz County

So I don't want this to be just a rant, but I have a feeling...
I think almost all of it stems from one of the first things I've learned, there is no sense urgency. Really, no one is in a rush, no hurries-no worries. Now, that's not always a bad thing, but just not how I grew up, and it sure isn't how things are on the right side of our country. After 30-some years of rushing here, rushing there, in a hurry to get here and there and to get this and that, I'm simply not used to the laid back attitude out here and, as I said already, lack of urgency. I'm really trying though, I wanna slow down and just be more relaxed. This would really help with the second thing I've learned...

The driving out here SUCKS! People don't know how to merge, how to drive on a freeway, well, basically, how to get the hell outta my way. Remember, I'm in a hurry to get somewhere. Just because everyone else isn't doesn't mean they should be able to get away with clogging up our freeways so it now takes an hour to get somewhere and it should only be 15 minutes. Yes, it is only a 17 minute drive from our driveway in Wat to the Westside in Santa Cruz - when no one is on Hwy 1.  Around 4 PM to almost 7, it's going to take anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour!

If you think that the driving is bad, the parking is even worse.  If you are a friend of mine on Facebook, I'm sure you have seen my comments, looked at the pictures, or both.  It is so interesting, no, frustrating, when you see so many vehicles that have been parked across lines, diagonally in a spot, or worse... now, here's where it gets better.  I'm parked out away from others, go into a store, come out and can either barely get in my car or almost can't get out of my spot (I'm perfectly centered in), or both.

Here's the good though... the people are friendly, the landscape is beautiful, the weather is perfect, and I'm very happy!  Now I've just gotta learn to SLOW DOWN!
